Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish the Squeak Would Go Away I've owned perhaps a half-dozen pair of these over the last several years, and had no problems (loved the shoe). But I bought a pair last October that have a bad squeak that started a couple of weeks after I bought them. Thinking it was a fluke, I ordered another pair in December, and again the squeaking start a couple of weeks after starting to wear them. I'm guessing at this point there's no way to return them; I'm just really sorry at the apparently low quality control standards recently in their manufacturing. I wish Nike would solve the quality issues, and make the squeak problem go away. In all other aspects, this is a really good shoe.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great at first...until it failed These shoes fit me very well, with reasonable arch support for everyday use, and occassional sport use. After a couple of months, the shoes have started to make an internal squeeking noise, as if layers of rubber were seperating. I have read other posts that claim the same thing (unfortunately, after I bought them). I am posting to reinforce that this shoe apparently has manufacturing problems. DO NOT buy this shoe. If it weren't for the squeeking, I would have given this shoe a 4 or 5 star review. I have bought Nikes 75% of the time when buying shoes, but this experience has turned me off (waste of my money). I will likely start buying another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Squeaky Shoes Got a pair of Air Monarchs about a week after Christmas. By February I couldn't stand it any longer. The shoes were squeaking so much that people knew I was coming and they'd say "here comes the IT guy" at work. So I contacted Nike, sent back the shoes. Turns out this must be a major quality concern for Nike because if you search on google for 'nike air monarch squeak' you'll discover that this is a BIG problem. Don't buy these shoes if you're a jewel thief, you'll get caught. Something inside the soles are giving out. But, on the flip side, they were extremely comfortable. Glad I got rid of these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Squeak Cure make them Great Shoes These are the only Nike I have found wide enough for my foot. Even at 4E I still blow the sides out of most shoes. I have worn out about 8 pairs of these shoes and they are my favorite. I wear them all the time and go thru @ 2 pairs a year. The squeak started about 4 pairs ago and was so bad I almost stopped wearing them. Get the inside wet a few times and they start to squeak. To stop the squeak, gently remove the insole Apply enough foot powder to completely cover the inside of the sole and replace the insole. Go for a walk, jump around a bit to work the powder into the sole and the squeak is gone. Has worked every time. Wish Nike would make more shoes for people with wide feet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from squeek Poor rating because of the squeek !!!!!!! These are the most comfortable shoes when you walk a lot or on your feet BUT after a short time they squeek and it is pretty embarassing and annoying!! Nike should really fix this probably because what I see on reviews -- I am not the only one that says these are the most comfortable shoes but will not buy them again because this is the 2nd pair I have bought and the first pair squeeked but thought maybe it was just an unusual thing but seems it is pretty much what everyone experiences. NIKE fix this squeek so we can have our comfort back!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from squeaky comfort I had an old pair of Monarchs that fit great and lasted a long time. I think they were pre-monarch III. I couldn't find a Monarch III that fit right. I'm a 2E width, but can sometimes go with a D width 1/2 size bigger. The Monarch IV seemed to work better. Though no 2E width, I was able to upsize and find comfort finally! My only complaint, which I see dominates the reviews, is the squeak this shoe has developed. It has become quite annoying and I'm reluctant to wear them in my office environment now. I'm curious if this could be considered a flaw in workmanship that would allow a return of product?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Air Monarch Not a great buy I've had these shoes for about a month and a half. I purchased them on 10/6/12. I've always had good results with Nike. Alas, about two weeks ago I noticed that everytime I walk the left shoe started squeaking. Like the sound you hear when you are playing ball in an indoor gym or when you come in from the rain. It's coming from somewhere near the bottom back of the shoe. I've gotten compliments on how these shoes look and I feel that the outside of the shoe will be durable, but the constant squeaking is really annoying. I'd prefer to give it 2.5 stars, but I'm going to give Nike the benefit of the doubt going forward wearing these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Air Monarch IV, my favorite athletic shoe I’ve been wearing the Air Monarch IV and similar previous version, Air Definition, for years and I appreciate the wide size availability, comfort, arch support, and styling. My exercise includes a daily walk of over 3 miles and most of the many pairs of this shoe I’ve owned have squeaked. I hate the squeak but it’s not a deal breaker for me since I have always been able to easily eliminate it. I simply saturate the heal area around the insole with baby powder. Sometimes I even loosen the rear portion of the insole to get the powder under the edges. I may have to repeat the process but after walking a while the squeak is eliminated. Works every time for me.
