Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike! Near LBS quality. I bought my GT Avalanche 29" two weeks ago during Dick's 50% off bike sale for $500 and have put about 50 miles on it so far. It is very well made, shifts perfectly and smoothly. I did need to do some adjusting to fit me perfectly, but overall I'm very pleased with the quality and the ride. I do mostly trekking and don't do a lot of hard core mountain biking, but I have no doubt this bike could take it. The components are good quality for the price I paid. My only con is the seat is a little hard. IMO, it's the best mountain bike at Dick's and well above what you will find in other big box stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I purchased this bike during the annual bike sale. I purposely waited some time to write a review. I've put about 70 miles on this bike and it performs beautifully. It is a very smooth ride and shifts perfectly. If I had to pick something to improve upon it would be the brakes. They're not bad by any means but they could be more responsive. I would recommend purchasing a better saddle as the stock one is not very comfortable. No issues with the chain snapping as others have stated. But in my experience, with any bike, proper shifting and not crossing the chain will extend its life and prevent snaps and drops. This is a very well put together bike and well worth the money for the components that it has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value to Performance Purchase the bike during the big sale and have been holding off on my review till I put some good seat time on the bike. I’m 6,2 290lbs and have done over 100 miles on the road and a decent in the woods. The bike has performed amazing. I lock the front fork on the road and pedal my heart away. Cruising along and choosing my gears wisely. I live in Ma. with a local mountain bike park near by. Little inclines and descends and the bike rolls with the best of them. I have broke a chain and replaced it but from personal failure of pumping the pedals in too high of a gear instead of being in a lower gear and pedaling it out. Going to keep at it and upgrade in a year or so to something full suspension but to start this bike is doing it all.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Two broken chains Well, ordered this bike two weeks ago, broke the chain in 20 minutes. Normal riding. Dick's replaced the bike for free, that was nice. They had to order it so a week later my new one came in, they set it up, and I brought it home. Rode it to work for the first time today, went fine, rode it home, went fine. Short ride with my daughter tonight, not fine. Chain broke same way again. The rest of the bike seems great. Second chain broke after roughly 9 miles of riding, on a road... The other components seem to be pretty solid. I will update this to let y'all know how round two goes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike for the money! I bought this bike two weeks ago and would recommend it for sure. The XL is perfect for me at 6’5” and the 29” wheels roll over rough terrain with no issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Bike Very nice bike! The shifting levers are a little close to the index finger, but not too bad. Functions very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike Purchased this bike roughly 2 months ago and it has not disappointed me yet. Rode everything from the roads to trails in VT, MA, Updtate NY, Long Island. Great bike so far. No issues with the chain as other people have had. Seat is hard. Definitely reccomend this bike for beginners or long time riders.
